Cancer has long been thought of as purely a genetic disease.  New understandings of cancer have revealed that phenotypic plasticity and phenotypic induced somatic mutation, driven by signals between the cancer and the local as well as distant stroma, play a critical role in survival, invasion, malignancy, and metastasis.  Theracrine was founded by Flagship VentureLabs to harness these new insights and develop a new class of cancer drugs.  The company’s founding advisors—Joan Massague, Bob Weinberg, Doug Hanahan, and Michael Rosenblatt—have led in understanding the processes of phenotypic plasticity and subsequent malignancy.
