Scientific founder of AVEO, Dr. DePinho, named President of the MD Anderson Cancer Center
Flagship congratulates Ron DePinho, Professor of Medicine (Genetics), Harvard Medical School and Director, Belfer Institute for Applied Cancer Science, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, on his appointment as President of the MD Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas. Dr. DePinho is world renowned for his research into the molecular and biological mechanisms of cancer, aging, and degenerative diseases. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies and fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His selection as President of one of the world's leading cancer institutes is further recognition of his leadership role at the very forefront of cancer research.
Flagship has had the honor of working closely with Dr. DePinho through its investment in and seat on the board of directors of AVEO Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: AVEO) and through explorations of other commercial opportunities in oncology. Dr. DePinho is a scientific founder of AVEO and a member of the company's board of directors as well. AVEO has built a powerful platform for cancer drug discovery that incorporates technology developed in Dr. DePinho's laboratory that enables realistic modeling of human cancer in mice.
